I didn't just start a tea company.

I carried a memory across an ocean.

Every morning, my mother would wake up early to brew us a pot of warm, comforting tea. Those cups weren't just warm — they were wrapped in a mother's love and patience.

When I moved from Japan to Amsterdam, I looked for that feeling. That quiet. That warmth. That Japanese soul in a cup. I couldn't find it. So I created Ochaya.

"Not to sell tea — but to give you what my mother gave me. A reason to slow down. A moment that is just yours."

Tea making is a lesson for life. It requires you to be present. To step out of the hustle, slow down, and just be. That is 一息つく.

Those 5 minutes — maybe 10 — that belong entirely to you.

This is what Ochaya is built on. Not big moments. Just the small, daily ones that bring you back to yourself.

Every tea we source, every ceramic we make by hand — it all begins with her. My Okaasan. And her morning ritual.
